I want to believe that Benedict doesn’t want to have tea with Martin not because he thinks he’s a loser, but because he knows how bad he reacts with famous people and he doesn’t want Martin to get hurt.

Oh god, no. Oh no. He’d spill on himself, and then I’d have to clean that up for him. Then he would walk into a door and I’d have to phone an ambulance. And then he’d end up, end up, hijacking the ambulance by accident, thinking it’s taxi home. He’s a disaster.

PS: The composition and theme is inspired from The Poor Poet, by Carl Spitzweg. As soon as I saw the painting, with the dingy attic, tiny poet who was nevertheless determined to follow his dream at all costs to living conditions, I thought, “Wow, that is familiar”. Hence, this piece!
